From a popular original slash story (the names have been changed to protect the innocent):

cut for dangling bits (NWS)Collapse )

So, I was going through one of my recommendation sites for good slash when I ran across one that had the warning '(consensual)bdsm'. Oh GOD did this piss me off!

This is my rant on the phrase "chick with a dick" and how much that attitude makes me angry.

I don’t know if this is allowed. It pertains to a slash writer, and slash readers, so I’d wager, yes. If not, I’ll delete it.

“Constructive criticism is rude when the author doesn’t ask for it.”

Can I just say that there is absolutely no excuse for the kind of behavior displayed in the screenshot (behind the cut)? This is what a new subscriber posted on a message board for an online slash story:

ETA: I looked into this a bit and on the main page for the story, there's a big text box that says people who subscribed last year will be emailed a password but that people who subscribed from january onward should use their username as both the username and password, the latter being applicable to the subscriber in my screen shot.

So really I think if the subscriber had just gone to the story page, their problem would have been resolved. Perhaps that is why the author didn't respond.... Because the answer is so obviously there. They shouldn't be waiting for a password on the first place.and they should have checked thee actual website first.

Now that the issue is public though, the author should come out and explain that new subscribers should use their username as their password and not sit and wait for an email. Just to clear things up for potential new readers.
Before I begin, I should say that this could apply to fandom or original slash, but it happened to be an original fic that inspired my irritation.  If it's inappropriate for this community I do apologize.

Communities are a great place to promote one's original slash writing, and there many of them out there for slash writers and readers, some have the most general of requirements and others are for a niche interest or kink.  I watch several, in order to get some variety in what I read, which is why excessive crossposting gets on my nerves.

I just need to vent for a minute.

You know which one I'm talking about...Collapse )
Okay, how many of you wonderful individuals have run across situations like this? You're sitting in front of your computer, reading what you hope to be some great, smexy slash. Got your favorite drink in hand, and your eyes just begin to scan the fruitful beginnings of your goal...

When you spy an ass in your ointment. That is just one of several short words that crack my monocle into tiny, eye-stabbing shards.

I'm going to skip over the general stories Pet Peeves like not knowing the correct forms of words, and such. These are some major items I have found in slash writing and don't understand WHY These stories are so popular and get recommended. These are just my personal opinions, and as a slash author myself, I can say that I find it really irksome.

My personal pet peevesCollapse )

So as I said, those were just MY pet-peeves and no one story was thought of while ranting. But I did think of one more:

Why as readers do we not tell authors we like their stories? I've seen LJ communities with 300 people, and there's maybe only 4 responses per chapter. Or I've been rec'ed to stories where people say, "This is SUCH A agreat story! I don't know why more people don't review".

Hello, I found this community today and was very amused at some of the content. It seems like a great place! I don't know if sharing other sites is allowed (if not please disregard or delete), but I thought I would share with you a wonderful forum I stumbled upon recently that has a lot to offer for lovers of slash. It's called Fate Fiction, and it's an up and coming forum for lovers of all type of slash. We share our works, whether it be writing or art, with each other, rant about various things, sort of like here, and just have fun! There's contests, a place for beta readers, and all kinds of other great things. I hope some of you will take the time to visit, and share your slash rants with us, too!
